In this 2 Mini Retreat introductory meditation course participants learn the basics of meditation practice and how to establish a daily practice at home. Each session is 4 hours long and includes a discussion of topics that support both understanding meditation as a process and a practice, stretching to prepare the body for meditation, chanting to quiet and prepare the mind for meditation, a guided meditation and a sharing and Q&A period.  Topics to be discussed in this introductory course include:

  • defining meditation
  • identifying the benefits of meditation practice
  • meditation on the breath
  • understanding the nature of the mind
  • gaining control of the mind through witnessing thoughts, sensations and emotions
  • sitting comfortably in a posture that is conducive to meditation
  • yoga postures and breathing for releasing physical and mental tension in preparation for meditation
  • the Inner Self, the source of peace, inspiration and healing within your own heart
  • establishing regular meditation practice at home
  • creating a sacred space for meditation in your home
  • integrating meditation practice into your daily routine and work life

Participants are encouraged to journal their experiences of meditation both at home and in class during the course. The course will meet from 1:00-4:00 p.m. each of two Saturdays in February ( 2/10 and 2/24) at The Wilcox Center for Psychotherapy and the Healing Arts in North Branford, CT. The course fee is $100. The registration deadline is Jan. 31, 2018.
